I have been reading Matt Seaton’s column in the Guardian for longer than I can remember. When I first started into cycling as an adult I looked forward to his opinion every week. He has a happy knack of speaking for those of us who are daily plodders, but cycling enthusiasts. Witness his heartfelt enthusiasm for Bradley Wiggin’s TdF win – all the sweeter as he says because he believed it was fairly earned after all the dark 20 years before when we were left wondering how performances were possible.
So it was with real pleasure that I picked up his, “Two Wheels: thoughts from the bike lane” a collection of his weekly articles published in the Guardian under the column of the same name. Here the articles are bundled under a dozen themes covering e.g. campaigning issues, urban cycling, mechanicals, gear, sporting events etc.
The best bits about Seaton are the clarity he brings to matters and the gentle good humour he exhibits throughout. He writes with all of the enthusiasm of the real fan and devotee. So Two Wheels makes the perfect bedtime or bathroom book: easy to dip in and out of and it never disappoints.
